Here are a few more of our favourite places…
Arcachon Arcachon is very touristy so its not easy to find a good restaurant… Dare I mention a few names…? Go to : Le Pique assiette, chez pierre…. no guarantees CLUB PLAGE PEREIRE The food is simple but the setting is delightful at the beginning or the end of the season. Its a bit too trendy and crowded in high season. Go in the months of May, June and September. Closed in winter. + Imagine an ice bucket with a bottle of white or rosé wine chilling, sand in between your toes and watching beautiful sunset over the Cap Ferret. Bliss. Gujan-Mestras Much more chic, sophisticated food, it’s great if you want to splurge a little…celebrate a birthday, or for a romantic evening. LE PORT DE LARROS A GUJAN MESTRAS A group of oyster shacks between Arcachon (see ville d’hiver) and Teich (Bird Sanctuary) L’ESCALUMADE Sea food and regional specialties in Gujan Mestras Cap Ferret At the end of the spit, the establishment has been run by the same family for 4 generations, it’s an Cap Ferret institution, however due to the retreating coastline the restaurant is under threat. + The fresh sea air, the view of the Dune du Pilat like a big baked alaska across the bay. LE PINASSE CAFE Open 7 days a week, there’s always have fresh sea food, and a terrace overlooking the bay and the Dune du Pilat. + Recommended by Michelin guide, with very good ratings, and location, location, location LA CANFOUINE AU CANON On the Cap Ferret coast, it’s an authentic yet stylish oyster shack. + There’s a jetty for arrivals by boat, a terrace with lots of cushions facing the bay, sea food, chilled wines and mineral waters. An unforgettable experience. And while you’re there take the opportunity to wander down the fishing and oyster docks. It’s the part of Cap Ferret that we love the most..“ to live happily, we live hidden” See also : La Cabane du Mimbeau, chez Magne CHEZ RICARDO In the village Canon, it’s a Pizzeria thats good for both adults as well as the kids. We’ve been going there for years. And we keep going back. LA MAISON DU BASSIN Restaurant Maître restaurateur: which means all homemade. Excellent judging by our experience. There’s a superb dessert buffet, incredible variety, especially when you know the work that’s gone into them . But when it’s gone, it’s gone! It is also the home-made victim of its own success! Recommended SOMEWHERE ON THE ATLANTIC COAST Our holiday spot, but shhhhh. It’s a secret. Total relaxation. However there are many places on the Atlantic coast where you can enjoy the following: + The forrest is all around and the ocean only 500m away, the squirrels and deer surrounding the house when you wake up in the morning. The ocean and the infinite deserted sand beaches. No-one around to see you’ve gained a few pounds over Christmas! L’ASSIETTE A LACANAU Our summer spot for years. The food sometimes has a bit of an African flare and the daily special is definitely worth the detour. Full of locals and surfers, both addicted to waves and a white wine aperatif. I shouldn’t be putting this place on the internet. Only take your true friends. It’s not fussy. + The best price/quality ratio in Lacanau with ocean views and beautiful sunsets every evening. The owner is adorable. It’s great and synonymous with summer evenings in our family. More high-end places in Lacanau: La Cabane ( world cuisine, ask to sit in the summer garden: you’ll get a surprise!) le bistrot des cochons (excellent, whatever way you look at it)Where to eat at the Arcachon Bay : dune side
